Telangana Assembly elections 2018

Telangana Assembly elections 2018

Elections for a new assembly in Telangana is set to take place on December 7. The K Chandrashekar Rao-led TRS won 11 of the 17 parliamentary seats with a 34.9% vote share in the last elections.
Once the voting ends, much awaited exit polls for all the five states which voted in last one month will be released together. Looking forward to exit polls.

The youngest state of India was supposed to have its second assembly election in May 2019. But caretaker chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) dissolved the assembly in September 2018 and convinced the Election Commission to hold the election in December 2018.
Congress, Telugu Desam Party, Telangana Jana Samithi and the Communist Party of India have managed to come together to form a Mahakutami (grand alliance) and their shared strength will now pose a serious challenge to kcr.

Observers explain that KCR chose to hold early elections to avoid being merged with 2019 general elections to avoid being merged with 2019 general elections.KCR is said to be confident of his win and hence took the risk of early elections.
In 2014 assembly election, TRS won 63 seats. Congress stood second with 21 seats, AIMIM secured seven while the BJP won five and its then alliance partner TDP won 15 seats. The five remaining seats went to Others. Telangana assembly has 119 seats with 60 being the majority mark.
